Barry is also a convener for the APIA (Auckland Property Investors’ Association) Central Group and attends the monthly APIA keynote meetings at Alexandra Park. He has been a member of APIA since 1998; was a Board Member for the 2007-8 period; and has been actively involved with running APIA Local Groups since 2007.

About Barry Bridgman

Offering a 24/7 real estate property management service, it’s probably little surprise that coffee is an important part of Barry’s life, and one which he enjoys very much. Fortunately, the central Auckland suburb area in which Barry works provides an excellent range of cafés and coffee shops, as well as restaurants.

Dining out with friends is another of Barry’s favourite things: Asian and Indian foods are firm favourites.

Fortunately, living in Auckland makes it a pleasure to walk off those calories in pleasant surroundings (well, provided it’s not raining…). Weather-permitting, Barry enjoys three 5km walks each week around his neighbourhood in Mt Albert. (Yes, there are some good cafés en route..!)

Work history and background

Barry Bridgman has been self-employed since 1985 with 25 years’ experience in the engineering consulting and construction industries.This experience has been gained in draughting and design, contract documentation, project management and site supervision.

Barry’s career spans a wide range of industries including milk processing, water and wastewater treatment, chemical processing, pulp and paper, steel milling, broadband cable television, geothermal power stations and building services. Building services work included: office and commercial buildings, primary, secondary and tertiary educational facilities and specialist restaurant complexes.

Barry spent the first few years contracting to engineering consultants as an electrical design draughtsman, with notable projects being the electrical design for a $200million paper mill and the total re-design and reinstatement of a Bay of Plenty dairy factory following the 1987 earthquake. Later, Barry worked as an electrical engineer to consultants and design and build construction companies throughout New Zealand and the UK. Projects were located in such diverse locations as the Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, United Kingdom and New Zealand.

He returned to New Zealand in 1993 and was happy to quit engineering in 2005. His passion has always been property, and he’s happy to be working full time as a Property Manager in Auckland. (And not just because of the good coffee!)

Barry has also completed the New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (NZCE) at AUT in 1984.
